It really was 35 years ago Can't Post or

I'm getting old, I watched a few minutes of Top of the Pops on BBC4 last night, 35 years old - Dancing Queen by ABBA (I fancied Frida), Ruby Flipper, 1970's fashions, long hair. The problem is to me I can still remember quite clearly what I was doing in October 1976, I was still at school, fancied a girl called Denise and had a Oxford United season ticket. In hindsight life seemed more easy and simply in those days, and we had just had the "Summer of 76".

I was 12 and totally obsessed with football and music. I spent two weeks at Dawlish in Devon during that wonderful summer and spent quite a lot of time with a girl called Becky.

As ACMold has pointed out, life then was so much more simple.

I don't want to think about it. Jimmy quit and Joey got married otherwise we could have made it. Lightweight w*nkers.

In my next band Harry didn't care if we didn't make the scene. He had a daytime job and was doing alright. Selfish tw*t.

The abiding memory of October 1976 for me is probably seeing my first ever match in which I we arrived at the ground after dark, and which was also my first ever midweek match (if you don't count a PSF v. Wolves in August) but unfortunately it ended with Oxford United losing 1-2 to Lincoln City. The moment I remember most is John Shuker blazing a penalty over the bar at the London Road End.

In some ways I prefer to remember October 1975 which was when I started taking an interest in Oxford United's results, also I saw them on TV for the first time when they played at Notts County and it was shown on Sunday's ATV afternoon football programme.
