Sat 18.02.2012 1.00 - Essex v Wiltshire at Billericay Town 4-0 FINAL ON SUNDAY 22nd APRIL 2012 1. Sun 22.04.2012 2.00 - Essex v Yorkshire West Riding at Colchester United Essex - winners in 1948 and 1950, runners-up 1947, 1963 and 1995 Yorkshire West Riding - winners in 1994 and 2007, runners-up in 1998 Essex F.A. Semi-Final report Essex have the chance to end their 62 year wait for an F.A. County Youth Cup title after setting up a first final appearance since 1995. A late April final, on home soil against either West Riding is the reward for Graham Hall’s Essex side after two Dan Jones goals either side of the interval set them on their way against Wiltshire. Late strikes from Jacob Dingli and Ben Sartain completed the win. The two counties last met during Essex’s victorious 1949/50 campaign and that could prove a good omen as Essex look to finally clutch some silverware. On a slightly sticky surface, both sides had chances to grab an early lead as Wiltshire’s Joe Shepherd and Essex’s Albert Levett had fierce shots blocked. But, on the whole, the West Country visitors enjoyed the better of the first half play. That was a period, though, which culminated in Essex taking the lead. The crucial breakthrough arrived on 29 minutes as Levett’s neat through ball found Jones who calmly slotted beneath goalkeeper Robert Brown. In the ascendency after the interval, it was the hosts who dominated the second period and they could have doubled their lead but for Brandon Munday’s last-ditch tackle to deny Chris Harris. The important two-goal cushion was then built on 67 minutes. Wiltshire’s Jake Johns handled in the penalty area and, although ‘keeper Brown, saved Jones’ spot kick, the England Schools player reacted quickly to fire in the rebound. The visitors’ best chance of the afternoon saw Josh Morse’s long-range free kick strike the crossbar before being scrambled clear, but Essex put the game beyond doubt with a third on 77 minutes. Jones cut the ball back and crossed for substitute Dingli to head into the far corner. The tie was sealed three minutes from time as Levett slid the ball into the path of Sartain to side-foot a shot into the bottom corner, although there remained time for Callum Ibe to almost make it five for the hosts when his low effort was hacked off the goal line. Essex: Tom Pitman (Brentwood Town), Jack Shepherd (Billericay Town), Dan Walshe (Thurrock), Tom Vickers (Billericay Town), Nathan Bertram-Cooper (Redbridge), Tom Richardson (Manford Way) (Jamal Allen [Redbridge], 81), Ben Sartain (Great Wakering Rovers), Albert Levett (Canvey Island), Chris Harris (Heybridge Swifts) (Jacob Dingli [Brentwood Town], 74), Robbie Norris (Redbridge), Dan Jones (Redbridge) (Callum Ibe [Redbridge], 86). F.A. County Youth Cup Final Sunday 22nd April 2012 2p.m. at Colchester United Essex 4 (Ben Sartain 3 mins, Dan Walshe 5 mins, Callum Ibe (2) 93 & 119 mins) Yorkshire West Riding 2 (Josh Eastwood 9 mins, Kayden Jackson 61 mins) (after extra time, 2-2 after 90 minutes) Attendance 586 The match started explosively with three goals in the opening nine minutes. Sartain pounced on a pass in behind the defence on the right side of the box from Dan Walshe and he smashed the ball in off the near post giving the 'keeper little chance. Two minutes later Walshe tucked home a Sartain cross from six yards out. Josh Eastwood almost immediately pulled one back when his shot from the edge of the box went just wide, but he did not have to wait long as he volleyed back a semi clearance in to the top corner. Kayden Jackson went close to equalising in the first half, glancing a header wide, but did so just after the hour when Ryan Hall got behind the defence and shot across goal. The 'keeper parried it away only as far as Jackson at the far post to tap home. At this point Essex brought on Callum Ibe and this re-invigorated Essex who had two good chances through Walshe before the tie went to extra time. Within three minutes of extra time Ibe seized upon a loose ball in the box to slot home and he made certain of victory with a minute left tapping in Miller’s cross from a yard out to give Essex their first victory since 1950.
