Very strange - Redcar Athletic have just handed in their resignation from the Teesside League - basically being ordered to by the FA as the club cannot have two teams playing at Step 7 next season! I wonder if the club know they don't have to resign now?

The FA haven't updated their handbook for next season online yet so it's possibly only a draft but I can't see why they'd release it to the leagues if it wasn't correct.

Is it a mere coincidence that the Teesside League and Sussex D3 were the only two Step 7 leagues to end the season with less than 14 teams? Could this be the reason they have lost their Step 7 status?

Maybe if the Teesside League move back up to 14 in their top division over the summer in readniess for next season they'll regain the status back.

Sussex D3 is in tatters and comes as no shock its lost Step 7 status at all. It should not have been granted the status last season, kicking off with just 12 members!

Barnahm are merging with Wick, TD Shipley have folded, Haywards Heath Town and Sidlesham are Div 2 bound and due to Div One losing four sides (possibly 5 with Sidley in grave danger) there'll be no one dropping from Div 2 to Div Three.

That leaves Division Three with just 8 clubs! Unless the SCL find 6 clubs over the summer, quite how its going to survive this close season at all is a mystery!

Mind you, even if so originally, a change of heart would be entirely understandable!

The York Premier League is to be congratulated for achieving its step7A tatus for the 2013-14 season, however it may be all for naught if this story from the York Press is accurate!

THE future of the 116-year-old York Premier League is under threat.
Officials issued a stark warning that the 94-team competition could collapse if a new secretary is not found for the 2013/14 season.
Peter Gibson is stepping down from the role at the league’s annual general meeting on Wednesday after seven years in the post and 34 years on the committee.
Chairman John Jeffery said it was critical a new secretary was in place before the end of the AGM, which will be held at Wigginton Recreation Hall, at 7pm.
The league, formed in 1897, boasts 94 teams across nine divisions, with the flagship premier division recently earning a listing at Step 7 in the Football Association’s non-league pyramid.
Jeffery said: “If we don’t have someone in place it would bring the league to a standstill, which would mean no football for about 3,500 players in York next season.
“I’m desperately looking for someone to take it on. There is no one on the committee who can take it on because they have all got other jobs to do.
“We have put it out to all the clubs because I don’t think people realise that with no secretary there will be no football. That would be devastating after 100-odd years.”
Jeffery said he would be informing the North Riding County Football Association of the league’s predicament, although he remained hopeful of filling the position.
He said: “There should be representatives from 60 or 70 clubs at the AGM and I’m hoping that somebody stands up and says they are interested to do it with some advice.”
Jeffery paid tribute to Gibson’s contribution, saying: “He has spent all his life in football and has been the cornerstone of the organisation.
“It is one of those times when you say ‘enjoy your retirement’ but we are going to miss him.”
Gibson’s association with the league goes back to his debut as a 15-year-old player for British Sugar in 1956.
The 71-year-old later served as club manager, secretary and chairman before joining the league committee in 1979.
He said: “I have had seven years as secretary and I’ve enjoyed it, but I’m getting a bit long in the tooth now. It needs someone younger.”

Langney Wanderers have been promoted to Division 3 of the Sussex League and Siddlesham , I believe have not taken promotion . So they have 10 clubs and plans are afoot to play each other 3 times instead of twice

Can a league with a staggering 94 teams REALLY fold? Really????????? Seems bizarre, what would happen to those 94 clubs?

Well thats progress isn't it....NOT!

Why don't they just admit defeat and do the sensible thing, scrap it, redistribute the clubs to the feeders and elevate the feeders to Step 7 directly below County Div Two?

The suggestion above just sounds like a stubborn bunch of people refusing to let a pointless out-of-place, division die! Why Langney or Sidlesham would want to be associated with it I don't know!

Have the West Lancashire League not applied for Step 7 status at all? Its probably one of the better "below Step 6" leagues in terms of facilities/playing standards.

I can't believe the committee would seriously allow that to happen. More likely the article is an advertisement for the role!

They're all the same level and able to promote to step 6 so I don't know why the FA are sub-dividing it.
The criteria may have changed slightly but this is what it was when it started:

"With regard to the membership within each level, the following will apply:

Step 7 – Minimum of 16 clubs
Step 7A – Minimum of 14 Clubs
Step 7B – Minimum of 12 Clubs

In order for a league to qualify to be placed at each level the following minimum % of clubs MUST comply fully with the new Grade I.

Step 7 – Minimum 75% achieving Grade I
Step 7A – Minimum 50% achieving Grade I
Step 7B – Minimum 25% achieving Grade I

At Step 7 there will be a maximum of 25% of member clubs as classified as reserve sides of teams playing at a higher level in the National League System.

There will be no restrictions with regard to the number of reserve teams playing in leagues classified as Step 7A or Step 7B."

If the Sussex D3 is no longer Step 7, does that mean that Sussex D1 and D2 are no longer considered Steps 5/6? In which case D1 will no longer promote to the Isthmian? Otherwise promotion and relegation between D2 and D3 will be a two step jump.
