I fear you could be right there. But as for the cups, how can you safely predict them as they are basically just a lottery? I mean, who would have predicted that Oxford would win the League Cup in 1985-86?

It's just a bit of fun, with 5 minutes of bragging rights at the end of the season. I just put Oxford Utd at the bottom, because you've gone on a really shite run since your previous manager went to Northampton Town. But I think Hartlepool will be close to the bottom at the end of the season. I'm also concerned that my club aren't really clicking in midfield this season, with the Thorne injury being the main reason I feel. So I doubt very much that we'll be top or even second.

Re: [Isaac] Top & Bottom & Cups [In reply to] Can't Post or Reply Privately

Van Gaal stated weeks ago that it normally takes around three months for his methods to even begin to bear fruit, and emphasised this to the Man U hierarchy before he was offered the job. Moyes inherited a major rebuild job and didn't have time to succeed - or do too much damage; Van Gaal has an even bigger rebuild job as most of their defensive strength moved on in the summer. So while it's amusing to see the hysteria barely three games into the season, I wouldn't bet against him getting it right. Right now, and especially last night, he's still assessing his squad to see who can and can't fit into his philosophy.

Let's just enjoy the carnage while we can!

Is the problems at MUFC down to the fact that Alex Ferguson held on to his old guard too long and left a very average squad, beyond those great players. Did he actually care about the squad, which was in place, for the managers that followed him.

Partly yes. Ferguson knew a rebuild was needed and I can understand why he'd think it best for the new man to begin with a clean slate and have full control over that, rather than attempt to start the rebuild himself when he wouldn't be around to finish it.

I appreciate that the fat bird ain't quite ready to warble just yet, but nothing much is going to change in the next couple of weeks, so here's how my August choices went....

Premier Top: Manchester City..............x

Division One Top: MK Dons.................x
