Great first own goal though!!
If this had happened in some other countries you might start thinking about Asian markets and betting rings.

That was my 1st thought as well. The gk certainly got a few assists today. Wonder if the gk has had recent contact with Asia. As bad as the defence were he's got to be dropped.

Couldn't believe it when I saw this result. Mainly because I went to the same fixture LAST season! (Which was an ordinary 1-1 draw Unsure)

In 1972, at the height of their powers, Don Revie's Leeds United dismantled Southampton 7-0 at Elland Road.

It was when Match of the Day featured at most a couple of games and the BBC commentator was orgasmic in his appreciation of a goal fest. He seemed to see it as an example of how they were at last shaking off their "Dirty Leeds" tag and becoming a class outfit. Unfortunately, Bremner and co. couldn't resist showboating with back flicks etc to rub the Saints' nose in it. Turned out it was the same old Revie's Leeds.

Vito Mannone is apparently talking about reimbursing the Sunderland fans that made the long treck to Southampton

Albion Rovers would have been slated if they'd put in a performance like Sunderland's.

The Premier League record is Manchester United's 9-0 win over Ipswich in 1995. The all time top flight record is 12-0; West Brom beating Darwen in 1892 and Nottingham, Forest beating Leicester in 1909.

Portsmouth 7-4 Reading, though that doesn't beat pre-premier league records.
