Oxford are playing two 'home' matches away from Iffley Road whilst the pitch at the university is being re-laid but sadly not at other local union grounds like Henley where I saw them play York last year. Instead they play Barrow at the Prince of Wales Stadium, Cheltenham on Saturday 25th July, 5pm as part of a double header with University of Gloucs All Golds v London Skolars which kicks off at 2pm. Then on Saturday 15th August they entertain Rochdale Hornets at Hemel Hempstead's Pennine Way.

Think only Banbury would be good enough other than Henley The other local Union ground at the Kassam is also having a new pitch laid Oxford RFC is not big enough and tend to leave the main pitch fallow during the summer and use outside pitches. Don't think Chinnor would be big enougb Not for the crowd but for the league authorities

It's three games shifted. Swinton will be at Hemel too.

It's fair to say the chosen venues didn't go down too well with the fans as there's no chance of building a support base playing in those locations.

Re Henley. Chances of us returning there probably weren't helped by a club official spotting comments on this forum about how the poster bunked in for free that day. Didn't go down well for some strange reason. There were other issues mind.

You are correct.
The pitch is also used for Football in the winter by the DRAM side in the WRCA League.

In the unlikely event anyone was planning on going to All Golds v Oxford this coming weekend, please note it has just switched from Sunday to Saturday. Still 15.00 kick off. Thanks for the warning folks. Really enthuses you to haul over there after the minor matter of a 4-96 defeat on Sunday!

York City Knights final four home league matches are all being played at Heworth ARLFC according to the RFL fixtures site which didn't change the venue for any of their previous games there from Bootham Crescent until a few days before, so any hoppers planning a visit to Elmpark Way now have a bit more notice. The matches are (Sunday unless stated):
9/8 vs Oxford
20/8 (Thursday) vs North Wales Crusaders
23/8 vs Hemel Stags
13/9 vs Barrow Raiders

Meanwhile University of Gloucester All Golds v Keighley Cougars on Sunday 6th September is being played at Cinderford RUFC.

Well worth a trip, Cinderford RFC has (or had) a decent raised stand. Sadly, for a town in the Forest of Dean, Cinderford leaves a lot to be desired.......

Two home matches at different grounds for Warrington Wolves in the Academy U19 Championship may be of interest to hoppers:

Saturday 22nd August vs Hull Kingston Rovers @ Victoria Park Arena. 1200 Kick-Off allowing plenty of time for a double header.

Thursday 27th August vs St Helens - 1900 @ Crossfields ARLFC.
May suit those travelling to North Wales for the hop as well as Leigh MR v Thatto Heath in NCL Premier which is also on the same night.

Sheffield Eagles RLFC plan to play their 2016 home matches at Sheffield Hallam University Sports Park. Since their formation (or, more accurately, the formation of the original club) in 1984, how many venues have the Eagles called home?!

York have confirmed their pre-season friendlies with Hull (January 3rd, 3pm) and Castleford (January 22, 7.30pm) are to be played at York City FC's Bootham Crescent. It seems - from the noises coming out of both camps - all York's 2016 home matches will be at the football ground. Last season, York had to play at various venues, including Featherstone Rovers RLFC, Heworth ARLFC, Pontefract RUFC and York RUFC.

Oxford are moving this season to Tilsley Park, Abingdon, which I believe is the athletics stadium next to the A34 that used to be visible driving past before the enclosing hedges sprung up. Their first two home fixtures will be the last chances to tick them at Iffley Road, 6th March v Newcastle Thunder and 25th March v South Wales Scorpions. The opening mach at their new home will be against Hunslet on April 24th.

The aforementioned Newcastle Thunder are playing two home matches in Johannesburg, South Africa; May 8th v Doncaster and May 20th v York City Knights.

Oh, dear. Sounds like the beginning of the end for Oxford. Rather like when Mansfield decamped to Alfreton. With respect to Doncaster, Newcastle and York, what will third rate semi-professional rugby league do to promote the sport in a country where union is so dominant?

I noticed this as well in the RFL fixture list, as we are at Paul Heaton at Cannock Chase/Staffs on the Saturday, with probably an overnight stay on July 9th, I will tick this on the way home on the Sunday Wink.

Newcastle Thunder will not host a game in Joburg on the 20th

I dont know the source for the information, but firstly a part time team would not fly out twice in two weeks nor stay for that length of time

Secondly its hard to get RL teams to go to London let alone this distance

Thirdly the game on May 20 is on a Friday as the Millenium Magic takes place at St James Park on the 21st and should provide the best gate of the season

What is the source of the info for both pieces of information? Can anybody advise if there is a stand at the Abingdon ground as there will need to be for one, along with many other requirements. The only thing I would confirm is the view expressed on here that if RL is uneconomic in Oxford it wont be any more successful on a running track near Abingdon. Sounds more like the end of the end than the beginning

The venues are on the RFL and Championship fixtures sites. I assumed those Newcastle games are in South Africa unless there is another place or ground in the North-East of England called Johannesburg.
When I could last see into the Abingdon Stadium from the A34 it looked like there was a covered seating area overhanging the main building.

No mention of Jo'burg on the the Newcastle Thunder site, but it's still on the official RFL site

Is someone in the office having a little joke, or let slip something? Intriguing. You have to hand it to Rugby League: they invented unpredictability.

Abingdon move is more predictable given that there were availability issues with Iffley Road. Look forward to visiting that one,at earliest convenience.

If you haven't visited Iffley Road, you must as it is a required visit.

The stadium in Abingdon is the Tilsey Park Track in Dunmore Road. There is indeed a small stand. If you google there is a picture of it.
Perhaps AC Mold can tell us if any football has been played there.
On Friday 4 March, Oxford are playing Cambridge at the Honourable Artillery Company ground near Moorgate, London.
There are also the usual London Skolars friendlies there.
As far as I know these are all afternoon kick-offs.
Admission to the Varsity game is a steep 15.
