Hurst Electrical Cup (Kent) 1992 Can't Post or Reply Privately

This was a midweek floodlit cup competition which began in February 1992.

Tonbridge took part in a mini-league with Sittingbourne, Whitstable Town and Margate. In most games they fielded youth or reserve players (although a Reserve Team was not officially put in place until the 92/93 season) to the extent that five of the six matches are the only matches since 1980 that I cannot complete my record of team line ups. I do however have appearance totals for the six games. Their final game against Margate wasn't played until early May.

I'm interested in how the competition concluded, having found that Folkestone Invicta played Whitstable Town in the first leg of a semi-final on a Saturday(!) in August 1992. I guess Whitstable had progressed from the previous season's mini league and Folkestone had taken part in a separate group.

Here are the records I have for the competition, if anyone else has any interesting data to add I would be keen to see it.

Wed 05/02/1992 Tonbridge 0 Sittingbourne 3
Thu 20/02/1992 Whitstable Town 1 Tonbridge 1 (Smith) Att: 72
Wed 26/02/1992 Tonbridge 3 (Rusha, Collins, Julians) Whitstable Town 4 Att: 169
Wed 11/03/1992 Sittingbourne 6 Tonbridge 0
Thu 19/03/1992 Tonbridge 1 (Pring) Margate 1
Thu 07/05/1992 Margate 4 Tonbridge 0
Sat 08/08/1992 Whitstable 2 Folkestone 4 (Scotland, Barham, Carney, Bean) - SF 1st leg.

1991-92 Sittingbourne won it, Ashford Town, Folkestone and Gillingham were three of the teams in the other group
1993-94 Whitstable Town won it

1992/93 Margate played Folkestone twice at some point in the competition and Margate also took part in a two-legged semi-final against Gillingham with both games being played at Margate.

1994/95 Margate played games against Chatham and Corinthian at some stage.

When I was doing Margate research I treated the 1990's Kent Midweek League and Cup games as reserve team fixtures so I didn't bother keeping records. Margate usually just played youth / reserve team players and when first teamers were involved they seemed to run up against other club's youth sides which resulted in some big wins. I rarely used to miss a first team game back then but never once bothered to watch a KML match.

Ashford were in the competition in 1991-92 although I didn't keep a record of all results, think although first team players played I didn't included in my stats for seasons and I certainly don't have all results.

I have no results at all for season 1992-93, but in a Sittingbourne match programme it gives Ashford bottom of the table as of 22 Feb 1993 having played 6 won1 and lost 5.

The group which Ashford were in had the following teams in it:

Sittingbourne, Gravesend & Northfleet, Gillingham, Folkestone Invicta, Herne Bay, Faversham Town, Margate , Thamesmead Town and Ashford. I am guessing that not all matches were played.

Hi Tony

Yes this was the Hurst Electrical League Cup in 1990/1991

They also topped the league competition that season as there was a league and cup version
