Too right! Pompey blokes always go out in style! Wink

Not strictly February, but by this time forty years ago, Swindon's finest Andy Partridge was putting the finishing touches to writing what would be XTC's debut vinyl release, '3D-EP'. Going into the recording studio in April, the results included...

Forty years ago today, on Tuesday 22nd February 1977, the live session on that night's John Peel Show on Radio 1 was by 'A Band Called O'. And here is them playing on The Old Grey Whistle Test two years earlier in 1975...

February 1977 was when I went to my first football match, so have been looking back on my childhood for the month. Only another five days left.

Forty years ago today, on Thursday 24th February 1977, A&R man Chris Parry finally managed to sign The Jam to the Polydor record label, after famously failing his opportunities to sign either Sex Pistols or The Clash. Their debut single - 'In The City/Takin' My Love' - would be released on 29th April, and the band's first LP would be released in early May...

Greg Spawton from BBT is an old mate of mine. I was at school with him, and played bass in his first band. {Name-dropping mode off}

Blimey, quite a claim to fame there Bantam Cymraeg!

I know he is a big fan of IQ as well - another very under-rated prog band.

I got into BBT from listening to English Electric, I was blown away by how good an album it is (difficult to find one in this day and age) and thought that it would be difficult to improve on EE. Folklore, however, did just that and I believe that Skylon is their next planned album?

Greg was the man who introduced me to the world of IQ, and they're still my favourite band more than 30 years on. Unfortunately, I can't say I'm a big fan of BBT. Greg is a huge fan of early Genesis, and echoes of that era can be heard in his music, but it's not really my cup of tea.

I've just started listening to Big Big Train, first impressions of Folklore are good, I've bought both of their English Electric albums too. First heard about them last week when I was at the CRS Awards before watching Pendragon.

Listening to an 'under the radar' duo named Bite The Buffalo.

They're playing at Concert At The Kings on Saturday 20th May, and have to say they are pretty good.

Also enjoying Big Big Train, favourite is The Underfall Yard - but they are all good.
Mostly in my Bose at the moment are German Prog band Frequency Drift. Really atmospheric. http://frequencydrift.com/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zxyCOrWcW4s
So many good prog bands about at the moment. Delusion Squared are certainly worth checking out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZxFNXVQ1W8
If you are a Genesis (Peter Gabriel) fan check out Italian band The Watch, the singer sounds more like Peter than Peter! They started out as a Genesis tribute band but their own stuff is very good.
