Who is the oldest football club still playing in a local league? Can't Post or Reply Privately

I'm asking the above question as Leigh Town FC think they are one of the oldest clubs still plying their football at 'park' level.

Formed in 1875 they played in the Southend & District League before transferring over to the Southend Borough Combination.

I hope to be at their final league game of the season on Saturday. Currently sitting third, a win will see them crowned Premier Division Champions.

Thank you.

In both cases, and others - can a continuous history be shown?

Most amateur clubs folded during one or both world wars. Some were not reformed until several years after the end of the wars. This technically means that many clubs have celebrated their centenaries incorrectly.
To buck the trend Rozel Rovers of Jersey were actually formed in 1944 during the German occupation.

The link below confirms that Sheffield FC, Hallam FC and Cray Wanderers are generally accepted as the oldest clubs that have unbroken playing records since their formation....

So Civil Service FC have been going since 1863.

I'll leave it to others to decide if the Southern Amateur League meets the criteria of "park" level

Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

That link also shows Worksop Town being formed in 1861 - which is nonsense.

Kiveton Park affiliated to the Sheffield FA in 1883 (playing games as early as 1877) and still going strong.
