Tom Petty RIP Can't Post or Reply Privately

Tom Petty suffered a cardiac arrest and died today aged 66.

A real musical giant who had just signed off his 40th anniversary tour with the Heartbreakers. One of the few from the East coast who broke the stranglehold that West coast bands held on the American rock scene.

RIP Tom

I wish I'd seen him and the Heartbreakers in a small venue but I'll just have to console myself with their appearance at Knebworth in 1978. They overcame the vastness of the setting and were easily the best support act that day.

And I have a copy of 'American Girl' in its original picture sleeve. One of the great singles of the 70s (and whenever I hear it I also hear 'Do Anything You Wanna Do', a song in the same spirit from the same summer).
