More sad news...

Two more pubs have closed on the Isle Of Wight, where a staggering 22% of all pubs are under the cosh of Ei Group (previously skulking under the name of Enterprise Inns). The latest closures are The King Lud in Ryde, which sat on the Esplanade opposite beach right at the front of the town, and The New Inn in Shalfleet, over to the west on the road to Yarmouth. The King Lud was often full of day-trippers and could be a mix of both fun and boisterous. The New Inn, however, was always a bit of a gem - an old rural place where I can remember spending summer afternoons supping cider.

The Barley Mow on Town Street, Bramley, Leeds closed earlier this month and is now boarded up with a fence around. There is a "For Sale" board up..

The rear of the Pub housed the dressing rooms for Bramley RLFC when the ground was directly behind.. I attended my first match there in April 1053!

Another of my old hang-outs is closing in Swansea this week...

https://www.walesonline.co.uk/...ng-pubs-era-15997565

...with Wednesday 27th March due to be the last day of The Singleton Hotel, 1 Dillwyn Street, Swansea. It is one of the very last pubs left in the streets surrounding the former Vetch Field football ground. Predictably, it is to be converted into student accommodation.

I can't remember the last time I popped in for a pint on one of my regular trips to Swansea - probably four or five years ago now. However, it was the pub of choice for my group of mates before heading to watch the Swans play at the Vetch Field back in the late 1980s, back in the day when the surrounding terraced streets were full of great little pubs on almost every corner. The good thing about The Singleton, though, was that even though it was one of the closest pubs to the turnstiles for the North Bank, it was one of the more peaceful matchday pubs in the neighbourhood - this pub was also the pub of choice for those heading to the nearby Swansea Grand Theatre, so the place was always elegantly decorated and usually had more of a mixed clientele with lower levels of testosterone pumping through their veins. In comparison, I can remember in 1988 seeing a Cardiff City fan being physically thrown out through a window of the next door Garibaldi Arms, which was a proper den of hoodlums! The Singleton was always much calmer.

Whitbread has announced it is to close The Llandoger Trow pub in central Bristol on Saturday 20th April...

https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/...trow-closing-2683530

The Llandoger Trow is regarded by some as the oldest pub in Bristol, and is reputed to be the inspiration for The Admiral Benbow pub in Robert Louis Stephenson's tale 'Treasure Island'.

Even more bad news...

One of the oldest pubs in the country, the Cock Inn in Sibson, near Atherstone, has closed after over 750 years...

Opened in about 1250, it saw the preparation and the aftermath of the Battle Of Bosworth Field in 1485.

The blight of pubs being converted in to flats has happened in Camborne as well with The Railway Tavern, Lounge Bar and Clipper Inn all succumbing in recent years.

The 3 pubs between Truro railway station and the city centre have also gone in the recent past.
Admiral Boscawen (house)
Swan (flats)
Standard (restaurant)
Al least one can get a pint at the former GWR club (now the Railway Tavern)
