I suspect New Zealand might well beat Fiji in the OFC Nations Cup Final and qualify.
Their results so far have been:
New Zealand 11 Tonga 0
New Zealand 6 Cook Islands 0
New Zealand 10 Fiji 0
New Zealand 8 New Caledonia 0 (semi-final)
Most of their players play abroad including Ria Percival of West Ham.

All the teams slots have been taken, just waiting on the draw next weekend, thanks for that update as well Swindon Addick.

"For the draw, the 24 teams will be allocated to four pots based on the FIFA Women's World Rankings released on 7 December 2018, with hosts France automatically placed in Pot 1 and position A1 in the draw"

The lack of any decent opposition can't do much for the development of women's football in New Zealand.

They reached the semi-final of the recent FIFA Women's Under 17 World Cup so the massive step up in the quality of the opposition can be dealt with.

There is an interesting article on the unofficial 1971 women's world cup in Mexico on the BBC website.

Most of the England team seem to have been schoolgirls, some as young as 13.

I think I'll be going to a couple of games in this. From my base in Belleme I can get to Paris and Havre without too much difficulty
Will wait until closer to the dates to be certain. I am assuming there will not be a problem with ticketing, except possibly French games
Anyone know if tickets will be available on the day, or do I have to pay in advance?

Now a little bit of an advert

Whilst I accept that England are amongst the favourites, fully professional etc., the build up on BBC Radio5 has been incredibly England centric.
There has been the occasional mention that Scotland are also there - usually mentioning they're "in England's group" (rather than "in the same group")
Meanwhile, it's just feature after feature about 'The Lionesses'.

30 seconds into the BBC coverage of theopening match and the first mention of England winning the 1966 World Cup.

Really enjoying the competition so far and interesting to see the effect of the changes to the laws.

And VAR is certainly making a big impact.

Despite the hype, I'm not convinced England can improve on their 2015 third place finish. There's a fair few other sides that are well organised and talented.

I dont know if anyone saw the VAR decision on the retake of the Argentina pen v Scotland last night when it was 3-2 to Scotland at the time, the Scottish GK came off her line apparently to save the penalty and the penalty had to be retaken

I think it was very harsh myself as i think Scottish GK didn't really come off her line that much to save the penalty but it seems VAR is very strict about stuff like that

So with the quarter finals set, the USA are accompanied by 7 European teams.

The Europeans are competing for 3 qualifying spots for the Olympic Games next year in Tokyo, England competing for the right to earn a spot for Team GB. (There was an agreement among the home nations that England would be the team to try and earn qualification rather than Scotland due to them being higher in the world rankings)

If the USA beat France in the QF, the three other teams in the semi-finals will all be European and that will be that.

If France beat the USA, all four teams in the semi-finals will be from UEFA. The two finalists will automatically get two of the three Olympic spots with the third place being dependent I assume on the third place play-off, which for what might be the first time ever would actually mean something.

Alternate provisions had been made if teams 3 and upwards had been eliminated at the same phase of the World Cup, namely a play-off system for a maximum of 4 teams in the early spring international window, and even a series of tie-breakers if for instances 5 teams had been eliminated at the last 16 stage.

So it's looking likely that England are going to win their Quarter Final against Norway to progress to the Semi-Finals.

This still leaves them three routes to Olympic qualification

a) The USA beat France in their Quarter Final

b) England beat France in the Semi-Final

c) England lose to France in the Semi, but then win the third place play-off against either Italy, Netherlands, Germany or Sweden.
