Milnrow CC Can't Post or Reply Privately

Milnrow have resigned from the Lancashire League from the end of the season. They have failed to fulfil a 2nd eleven fixture and a T20 match, having failed to raise teams and say they are struggling to compete at this level.

Applications are being sought to replace them but it will be interesting to see if anybody wants to make the jump. Only 2 years in the league following expansion.

Milnrow haven't let the grass grow. They've joined the Greater Manchester League for 2020:

Ive been meaning to ask if someone in the know could give me a run down of how the many leagues in the northwest compare. Many are not ECB Premier Leagues but I don't know if that counts for anything.

Can you help? It's tricky trying to find info about this. There are not the same number of enthusiasts as there are for football on sites like this.

Ps. Sorry to hear that 'Milnra' are struggling as two of my oldest friends are from thataway and I feel a link to the area (along with Littleborough and Tod).

They finished bottom of the 24-team league last season W2 L18 NR3 and are currently bottom of Division 2, W2 L9.

They may have a point.

Leyland currently top the Northern League. It would be good to see them follow Darwen into the Lancs League.

The Lancashire KO Cup is a decent indicator.

Prior to the Lancashire League showing an interest, the most successful leagues have been the Northern, Liverpool Competition and Bolton League.

Lancashire League teams shared the trophy with Liverpool Comp in 2017 and won against Liverpool Comp representatives in 2018.

This season the last 8 are
Northern 4
Lancashire 3
Bolton 1

If I were to rank the leagues I would say
1= Liverpool Competition, Lancashire
3 Northern
4 Bolton
5 Greater Manchester
=6 Ribblesdale, Palace

53 teams are allowed to enter the LKO. The Palace Shield entry is rather odd since it has now become in all but name the Second Division of the Northern League (the current top 3 are all relegated Northern League teams). Perhaps the organisers haven't quite kept up.

7 - Bolton Cricket League
7 - Lancashire League
7 - Liverpool & District Cricket Competition
7 - Northern Premier League
7 - Palace Shield Competition
7 - Ribblesdale League
7 - Greater Manchester Cricket League
2 - Southport & District Amateur Cricket League
2 - Greater Manchester Amateur Cricket League

The LKOC is probably as good a guide as any. That said, the ties I've watched in this competition in recent seasons indicate many clubs find it difficult to field full-strength teams, certainly on Sundays. The most recent example was Burnley (Lancashire League leaders) missing seven regulars at Woodhouses (lower table Greater Manchester League Premier), and getting soundly thrashed. Now the final is no longer at Old Trafford, I imagine the LKOC's appeal will diminish. Who'd get overly excited about playing a final at, say, Ormskirk? It's a shame there isn't a Yorkshire version.

Update on Lancashire KO Cup

Semi-finals (4 August)

Horwich RMI v Darwen.

I've seen it suggested RMI (Bolton League) are the best team in Lancs at the moment. They are in the last 16 of the ECB National Cup and defeated Walsden, Lancs League champions, in the previous round). Darwen (Lancs League) are current holders of the Lancashire KO Cup but have struggled in the league this season

Netherfield (Northern League) v Norden (Lancs League)

54 clubs from 10 leagues this season, Paul, not 53 from nine. The Westmorland League was allowed a single representative. The 10 clubs seeded to round two were drawn from the Bolton, Lancashire, Liverpool & District, Greater Manchester and Northern leagues. Organisers felt neither the Ribblesdale League nor the Palace Shield merited their clubs being seeded. Further restructuring, to reduce the number of competing clubs, presumably because of fixture congestion, is planned for 2020.

It'll be an all-Lancashire League final in the LKO

Darwen v Norden (at Heywood, 8 September)
