SUNDAY 20 th OCTOBER 2019
GALLAGHER PREMISHIP
WASPS v LONDON IRISH
ATTENDANCE . 12,401
ADMISSION £ 19
PROGRAMME £ 3.50

The Premiership finally got its league season under way ,a little later than normal due to the world cup, And it was newly promoted London Irish who came away from the Ricoh with a narrow 29-26 win . In an evenly matched first half where the lead kept changing hands. Both teams scored two tries. Irish led 19-16 at the break thanks to a 40th minute penalty.
It took just 2 minutes of the 2nd half for Irish to get their 3rd try of the game. With the conversion and a penalty Irish had opened up a 13 point lead after only 47 minutes . Wasps finally woke up and were slowly getting closer to the line only to be held up illegally by Botha , who was yellow carded on 62 minutes . Dan Robson made Irish pay a minute later with a try. The conversion closed the gap to just 6 points. Wasps were well on top now and thought they had scored a 4 th try but an excellent tackle by Irish denied them the try which was confirmed by the TMO . Wasps managed a 72nd minute penalty but could not find the their way trough the Irish defence who held on for an opening day win. Wasps had to settle for a losing bonus point.

Is a 12,000 attendance standard fare for Wasps @ Coventry? If so, itís a bit of a shame that a 32,000 Stadium has been reduced to 11 1/3-full Rugby Premiership games and maybe a few sell-outs in the European Cup, whilst the football team plays in Birmingham.

Averaged 17,400 last season but by all accounts they are in the habit of giving tickets away in good numbers and the club are in big debt.
