Applicants to join Step 6 for 2020/1 Can't Post or Reply Privately

I thought I’d kick off with the news that Northern Alliance club Newcastle Blue Star are developing their ground this season and will be applying for promotion to the Northern League https://www.nbsfc2018.co.uk/...round-redevelopments

Good. It will be interesting to see how many applicants there will be from the north-east this time.

However, given that, nationally, there are always applications from clubs which aren't at Step 7 wouldn't it be more accurate to rename this thread, now, as something like "Step 6 Applicants"?

After-all these clubs aren't applying to move up to Step 7 are they?

Last season Jersey Bulls came along and it seems as though an Isle of Man club may be applying this time. If you see what I mean.

Ashville of the West Cheshire league are considering re-application. Although floodlights are in place, these are old and not particularly luminous. The club are looking to replace them.

I would presume that FC Parson Drove are also highly likely to apply, as they've made fairly clear that they have ambitions of playing at Step 5 (and, judging from pictures people took at the groundhop in July, they probably meet the grading as well).

Down my neck of the woods

Dorset - Gillingham Town might, Swanage Town & Herston might - I'd guess it depends on how they're doing on the pitch ny application deadline date.

Wiltshire - Shrewton United and Kintbury Rangers both seem uncertain as to whether its the right time to step back up.

Hampshire - Stockbridge almost certainly will

I can't see any applicants coming from Gloucestershie or Somerset County leagues this year unless someone knows any different.

Further afield I'm guessing it'll be a straight fight in the Northants Combo between the only three that can realistically apply, S&L Corby, Thrapston Town and Woodford United. Depends on who applies and who finishes highest. Assume Thrapston will almost certainly be applying.

You can add to this Berkhamsted Raiders (groundsharing at Kings Langley to meet GG requirements) and Cranfield United (have the required GG just need to not finish below another applicant on GD).

Gloucestershire - Very much depends on events outside the clubs control the most likely are AEK Boco if they can get planning through in time, last I heard it was approved in principle with restrictions but a very vocal residents group were appealing. Similarly Rockleaze Rangers are dependent on when/if their landlord chooses to do work on the ground - i.e build a clubhouse and stands. Several other clubs have serious ambitions to move up but likely for later seasons as they build sensibly on/off the field, dark horse might be Gala Wilton if their good start continues.

As the mass push of clubs upwards at all levels continues, the Glos County League has lost all but a few of its bigger clubs, or clubs from larger conurbations, leaving a mostly village side like feel to the league.

With the exception of Patchway Town and maybe Quedgeley Wanderers, are the rest of the clubs really suitable for Step 6? Genuine question? Not sure what the support forthese village sides is like on Glos?

It’s possible most of the top 8 in the LSL could apply, with possible exception of Hathern. County Hall share at a suitable ground, Friar Lane, Blaby have been recently at that level. GNG applied last year I think.

All the clubs need work done of their grounds before they are ready as for support I'm not sure most clubs at steps 5-7 have enough to be sustainable without external backing or a healthy bar they own. Really only 4 could be called Village sides, the others are based in the Greater Bristol/Gloucester areas or part of a large town.

AEK Boco have got the club structure and support base to make a go at atep 6 and above. The same applies to Broadwell Amateurs but they are in an area with a finite number of quality players so will likely struggle on the pitch.

Frampton, Hanham, Bromley Heath and Hardwicke - no chance on their current grounds. Ruardean Hill very unlikely due to the cricket.

Henbury and Sharpness unlikely at the moment.

Gala Wilton, Wick, Quedgeley Wanderers, Rockleaze all have really good club structures but I'm not sure match day support is there - their members are largely playing elsewhere or there for the youth set-ups. Wick are probably best placed as they have their own bar - but they'll only go for it if it makes sense financially.

Patchway and Little Stoke both lack their own bars and play on Council run facilities. Both facilities will be getting money spent on them from S106 money from developments locally - Patchway's "ground" will be getting improved training facilities but nothing on the main pitch. Little Stoke will be getting the old changing rooms improved for the other pitches, the council is investigating what it needs to do to provide a ground for higher levels.

Think Southam United will apply as their ground will be step 4 standard by then. Obviously they are not on a step 7 league at the moment.

Herts: Letchworth Garden City Eagles most likely will re-apply.
Humber: Any news on Pocklington or Beverley's desire to move up?

Kent County - Assuming last summer's appeal fails for Peckham and Staplehurst haven't put them off, I'd assum they are safe bets to go for it again.

I expect half the WMRL Division One will apply too, including a resurgent Willenhall Town!

Staying in PDFL territory, I also think it is highly likely that Peterborough North End Sports will apply, as they groundshare with Peterborough Sports and seem to be their Reserves in all but name (indeed, they were the Reserves last season, but "merged" with another local side (Bretton North End, I think it was) and changed name). Only other potential applicants I can see would be Oakham United and Netherton United, but it's hard to say if either will go for it this year.
