Macclesfield Town’s winding up petition adjourned. Brexit blamed lol https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50155893

Blaming a widely-discussed event for issues that clearly have nothing to do with it is the sort of thing a company does when it's run out of excuses and is desperate. That mention of Brexit makes me suspect that the payments from overseas aren't as certain to come as the club are suggesting, so maybe we should be worrying about them more than we have been.

Things have got worse at Macclesfield Town, according to Mike Minay on twitter:
It is understood that Macclesfield Town players and staff have been told by the club that they will not be paid tomorrow - on what should have been pay day.

Club has been asked for comment.

Leaving aside the abysmal standard of writing in this statement (I have rarely seen so much tautology and so many unnecessary words) the assurance that 'the Club that it can meet its obligations to field a team in accordance with Leasing.com Trophy rules for Wednesday’s fixture with Shrewsbury Town' is laughable. The regulations for that competition require them to field at least four outfield players who started the previous first-team fixture; not exactly difficult given that the team for the last home fixture consisted of loanees and youth team players without a first team player anywhere to be seen due to them being on strike.

"It is understood that there has been some challenges with the banking process". Yeah, I too get challenges with the banking process when there's no money in my account.

More seriously, I'm not sure if the FA Cup counts as the last first-team fixture. If so, they were presumably granted an exemption from that particular rule, as they don't appear to have fielded anyone who started the FA Cup game. The rule isn't intended to force clubs to field weaker teams than necessary, so perhaps some sense was applied.

I think some of the youth team players would have been too young to play two games within a week?

Seems the team were paid yesterday, or perhaps just got particularly convincing assurances. Still clear that they need a buy-out if there's to be any chance of finishing the season.

For the record, the Maccs team that lost at Shrewsbury showed three changes from the Maccs team that lost the last League game against Carlisle.

Playing in the previous game is not the only way to be an eligible player. The top ten appearance makers for the club this season and anyone who has played 40 first team games are also eligible. Somewhat bizarrely playing in the next first team game also makes a player eligible retrospectively. Consequently Macclesfield had a huge pool to draw on for the game. Hence my comment that their assurance that they would abide by the qualification rules wasn't worth much.

Macclesfield Town charged with misconduct by the EFL & referred to a disciplinary panel over non-payment of wages.

The Silkmen received £30,000 from EFL after fulfilling last night's EFL Trophy game to help with the payment of owed salaries.

EFL Statement:
Macclesfield Town has been charged with misconduct under EFL Regulation 63.7 for non-payment of wages and referred to a Disciplinary Commission for failing to pay its players on the applicable payment due dates.

The EFL recognises the impact the non-payment of wages has on the health and wellbeing of those involved and has been engaged in discussions with Macclesfield Town and the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) to try and find an appropriate solution.

The Club was given until 4pm yesterday to provide a response to the EFL’s request for information in this respect. As a result of the information provided, the EFL has notified the Club of multiple charges related to failing to adhere to the terms of the contracts that are in operation.

The Disciplinary Commission has the power to impose a full range of sanctions as set out in Regulation 92 if the Club is found to be in breach.

As a result of the Club fulfilling its obligations in respect of playing last night’s Leasing.com Trophy fixture, the EFL has released an immediate payment of £30,000 secured through participation in this season’s competition to assist in the payment of wages to players and staff.

Bury was featured in Radio 4's 'You and Yours' on Thursday. It's not particularly enlightening – local businesses lose business without visiting fans.

Starts at 21m for 6 minutes.
